Training Assistant: Rachel Mink Years with BOP Training: 3 Areas of Responsibility: Rachel’s responsibilities include handling all of the BOP training registrations and cancellations, developing the Training newsletter, and maintaining the Training Lending Library. Rachel also ensures the trainers have all the materials, class lists, supplies, etc. they need for their training classes. Another responsibility of Rachel is developing and maintaining BOP’s web pages. What Rachel likes best about training: She isn't the one in front of the classroom! |
Trainer: Meredith Cash Weber Years with BOP Training: 16 Areas of responsibility: Meredith’s primary function is the development and presentation of the supervisory training modules. She also develops and presents a variety of professional and personal development courses, including Business English and Effective Writing. One of Meredith’s favorite classes is Business English, which is a grammar, punctuation, and usage class. Meredith enjoys making grammar fun and have it make sense for people who haven’t been in a grammar class since high school. |

Trainer: Todd Hanson Years with BOP Training: 8 Areas Of Responsibility: Todd’s main responsibility is to provide job specific training for the Department of Transportation, which includes arranging contract courses; creating, updating and maintaining DOT training manuals and courses; filming, editing, and producing DOT training videos, and presenting classes. He is also the primary trainer for Defensive Driving and CPR/First Aid. What Todd likes about training: The chance to help people. He enjoys helping participants do their best, learn new skills and information, and getting them to work with safety in mind. |
Trainer: Laura Mehlhaff Years with BOP Training: 12 Areas of responsibility: Laura is responsible for coordinating training with outside consultants. She coordinates all the special event training, including secretaries’ day programs, the Manager’s Conference. Laura assists state agencies in finding a trainer when they are coordinating in-house training. She also teaches the Employee Performance Planning and Review (PPAR). Laura’s favorite training class: Employee PPAR class is Laura’s favorite because most of the participants are new employees and are looking forward to learning about and being part of state government. |

Trainer: Kathy Hildebrandt Years with BOP Training: 1 ½ Areas of responsibility: Kathy works with Todd to meet the Department of Transportation’s training needs. She also teaches Defensive Driving and First Aid/CPR. In addition, Kathy develops and teaches a variety of professional and personal development classes including team building, communication, time management, and customer service, as well as all of the supervisory training modules. What Kathy loves most about training: When she sees a participant have an “ah-ha” moment! Knowing that someone is benefiting from the information gives her a good feeling. Kathy believes training truly offers something for everyone and participants never know when they may get a nugget to use back on the job! |
Trainer: Brenda Thomas Years with BOP Training: 8 Areas of responsibility: Brenda coordinates the BOP computer training program, as well as provides training on both Outlook and Word computer classes and on using a Blackberry. Brenda develops the computer training schedule, which includes BOP’s contract computer trainers: Peggy Martin who focuses on web development and photo editing software; and Nancy Ketteler who focuses on Access and Excel training. Brenda’s Favorite training class is Outlook Calendar. Calendar is under utilized in state government and is highly functional in day-to-day activities. What makes the class fun for Brenda is introducing the shortcuts and receiving the standard statement, “I didn’t know it could do that.” The class is very interactive and the students walk away with information that will make their job more efficient. |

Director of Training: Ellen Zeller Years with BOP Training: 23 Areas of responsibility: Ellen manages the state’s training program by supervising the training staff, setting program objectives, determining training needs, and directing training resources to meet appropriate needs. Her other responsibility is the Director of Classification for the Bureau of Personnel, so her time spent with the training program is split. Ellen’s favorite training program aspect: Having such a great staff who work hard to provide excellent customer service and to ensure the state’s training needs are addressed. |
