Department of Social Services Child Protection Services |
Child Protection Services were notified that Voice for Adoption selected South Dakota, along with two other states, as a joint recipient of the Adoptions Across Boundaries award for 2006. |

Department of Agriculture Division of Wildland Fire Suppression- Type II Black Hat Handcrew |
The "Black Hat" handcrew received excellent crew ratings from the Bureau of Land Management and Pike/San Isabel National Forest for work done in southern Colorado while on fire assignment during the 2006 fire season. |

School Connie Rous |
Rous was awarded the Milken National Educator Award. She will receive a $25,000 cash prize. |

Education-Wessington Springs High School Charlotte Mohling |
Mohling has been selected as the 2007 South Dakota Teacher of the Year. Mohling will receive several cash prizes from local sponsors and the use of a car for one year from a local car dealership. |

Department of Agriculture Dr. Sam Holland |
Holland was honored at the joint general session of the United States Animal Health Association and the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians for his outstanding contributions to the United States animal health regulatory field. |

Schmidt was recently honored by SD Public Broadcasting with the Champion of Change Award for her hard work as director of the All Women Count Program in South Dakota. |

Holden was elected to the office of president-elect by the National Association of State Purchasing Officials (NASPO) at its annual meeting. Holden will take the office of president at the 2007 NASPO annual meeting. |

Dennis has been appointed, by the Water Resource Assistance Program, to the National Membership Committee for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. |

Parks Secretary Cooper |
The Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA) awarded Secretary Cooper the WAWFA Professional of the Year Award for his leadership efforts and resolution of many wildlife issues in the west and nationally. |

Department of Corrections Mike Durfee State Prison |
Mike Durfee State Prison received the Five Star Award from the Employers Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) on May 31. This is an award given to employers that sign a statement of support and compliance for the National Guard and Reserve. |

The Huron Career Center won 1st place for the VFW National Employment Service Award. National Officers will be presenting this award for Huron's exceptional service to America's Veterans. |

Department of Game, Fish and
Parks |
The Department of Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) was presented with the Five Star Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve at their May GFP Commission meeting. This award was given in recognition of the department's support of employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserve. |

Department of Corrections Del Walter |
Del Walter, Machine Tool Instructor at Mike Durfee State Prison in Sioux Falls, was presented with a plaque for the Department of Corrections' work with the Hope Haven International Ministries wheelchair refurbishing program. Inmates at Springfield and Sioux Falls refurbish wheelchairs, which are then shipped to Hope Haven to third world countries. |

This program received national recognition for a training design for a 15-hour health education standards and assessment professional development event. The training was highlighted at a Council of Chief State School Officers' national meeting. |

Gerald received the 2006 Distinguished Service Award from the High School Activities Association. Gerald was honored for his outstanding service to the youth of South Dakota through his leadership in various high school activities. |

These three individuals from the Division of Resource Conservation and Forestry received the EPA Environmental Achievement Award for successfully developing an innovative financial incentives program. This will help assist 125 regulated animal feeding operations complete engineering designs for manure management systems. |

Gary Skoglund received the Certificate of Excellence for "Best Graphic" for a PowerPoint presentation he created regarding the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) results. He was given this award at a national NAEP meeting. |

The Mickelson Center for Criminal Justice was selected as Engineering Project of the Year by the Central Chapter of the South Dakota Engineering Society. |

Lois Moose has been selected to receive the 2006 Leader's Award from the South Dakota Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. The award is based on professional and community involvement and leadership to improve the quality of life for families. |

Chief Master Sergeant Clyde Aune of the 28th Bomb Wing presented the Command Chief Master Sergeant 28th Bomb Wing coveted commemorative coin to both men for outstanding service to Ellsworth Air Force Base separating, retiring, or active service veterans and spouses. |
